POSITION OVERVIEW

This is responsible work dealing with inventory and repair of County fleet. Work involves pulling parts, recording parts pulled from inventory, and the inspection and repair of County vehicles. Work is performed under the direct supervision of Shop Foreman and/or Assistant Director; reviewed by daily observation and reports.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

(All duties listed may not be included in any one position nor does the list include all tasks found in a position of this class.)

 

Provides needed parts for repairs from stock or vendors for mechanic’s specific repair. Assist in inventory control as assigned.

 

Inspects vehicles to assess for needed repairs, assisting mechanics in repair diagnosis. After service is complete, responsible for inspecting vehicle for quality of work, communicating with the mechanic’s regarding any concerns or errors.

 

Performs related work as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED

Education

Any combination of training equivalent to graduation from a standard senior high school; five years of experience as a mechanic and some experience with automotive parts and equipment required.

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability

Considerable knowledge of automobile parts and related equipment. Knowledge of requisition rules and procedures. Knowledge of modern inventory techniques and principals. Ability to maintain up-to-date inventory system. Ability to maintain good working relationships with supervisors and other employees. Ability to make routine mathematic computations and tabulations.

Physical Requirements

Ability to perform heavy lifting up to 150lbs and to work in awkward positions.

Environmental Working Conditions

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Employee may be subject to extreme temperatures, adverse weather conditions and high noise levels. Work is performed around machinery and equipment and risks exposure to traffic hazards, noise extremes, wetness, humidity, heights, fumes, dusts, odors, solvents, grease/oil, skin irritants, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibrations.

Special Requirements

Must hold a commercial driver’s license and be insurable by the Madison County Commission’s risk underwriters.

SALARY
$33,446.40 annually, DOE

Dental Coverage: Dental coverage is included with LGHIP through Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama. LGHIP manages dental costs and provides enhanced dental benefits using negotiated discounts with in-network dentists. To locate in-network dentists go to www.bcbsal.com. Assuming the services are covered you will normally only be responsible for out of pocket.

Life Insurance: Madison County provides $25,000 in life, $25,000 in accidental death and dismemberment and $25,000 line of duty insurance to eligible employees in certified positions.

Employee Retirement Plans: Employees are required to participate in the Employees Retirement System, which is administered through the Retirement

Systems of Alabama
(RSA).
Employees participate at one of the following levels:
Tier 1: An employee who had service credit in RSA prior to January 1, 2013 and contribute at a level of 5% per pay period. *The County contributes at a rate of 10.89%.

Tier 2: An employee who was hired on or after January 1, 2013 and contribute at a level of 6% per pay period. *The County contributes at a rate of 8.42%.

*Contribution percentage is set by the Retirement Systems of Alabama and changes annually.

Employee Clinic: Madison County employees and dependents over age 12 may use the Employee Health Clinic for the low co-pay of $15.00 per visit. To be eligible to use the clinic, the employee and dependent must be enrolled in Madison County’s health insurance plan as their primary coverage.
