This is responsible work dealing with all repair matters for the County fleet repair. Work involves assisting in maintaining inventory control of automotive parts and equipment, as well as managing mechanic assignments. Work is performed under the supervision of Director/ Assistant Director and reviewed by observation and reports.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for all work orders; determining whether repairs can successfully be completed in the County Shop or outsourced for better service/repair. Assign mechanics to service calls and allocate mechanics to specific repair jobs; ensuring assignments are completed in a timely manner. Assist mechanics in repair diagnosis. Communicates with departments regarding repairs and appropriate costs.
Assist in maintaining inventory control of all automotive parts and equipment; working in coordination with Assistant Director. Communicates with vendors regarding inventory parts and supplies.
Performs related work as assigned/required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED
Any combination of training equivalent to graduation from a standard senior high school. with five years’ experience as a mechanic and considerable knowledge of automotive parts and equipment. ASE Certification required.
Knowledge, Skill, and Ability
Considerable knowledge of automobile parts and related equipment. Knowledge of requisition rules and procedures. Knowledge of modern inventory techniques and principals. Ability to communicate and maintain good working relations with supervisors and employees. Ability to make routine mathematic computations and tabulations. Ability to plan, organize and assess necessary repairs quickly.
Environmental Working Conditions
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Employee may be subject to extreme temperatures, adverse weather conditions and high noise levels. Work is performed around machinery and equipment and risks exposure to traffic hazards, noise extremes, wetness, humidity, heights, fumes, dusts, odors, solvents, grease/oil, skin irritants, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibrations

Dental Coverage: Dental coverage is included with LGHIP through Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama. Assuming the services are covered you will normally only be responsible for out of pocket.
Life Insurance: Madison County provides $25,000 in life, $25,000 in accidental death and dismemberment and $25,000 line of duty insurance to eligible employees in certified positions.
Employee Retirement Plans: Employees are required to participate in the Employees Retirement System, which is administered through the Retirement
Systems of Alabama (RSA).
Employees participate at one of the following levels:
Tier 1: An employee who had service credit in RSA prior to January 1, 2013 and contribute at a level of 5% per pay period. *The County contributes at a rate of 10.89%.
Tier 2: An employee who was hired on or after January 1, 2013 and contribute at a level of 6% per pay period. *The County contributes at a rate of 8.42%.
*Contribution percentage is set by the Retirement Systems of Alabama and changes annually.
Employee Clinic: Madison County employees and dependents over age 12 may use the Employee Health Clinic for the low co-pay of $15.00 per visit. To be eligible to use the clinic, the employee and dependent must be enrolled in Madison County’s health insurance plan as their primary coverage.
